Miniatures to Paint · żywica SLA Oni Hitokuchi - Devourer Shrine
Oni Hitokuchi — the devourer-mouth shrine, a one-bite god given physical form: a tongue-coiled maw set in a corona of flame-leaves, kappa-faced ofuda charms, three crowning oni-heads and a tentacle-wreathed root. A Clay Cyanide display sculpt, 3D printed in SLA resin for painting competitions, shadowboxes and Eastern dark-fantasy dioramas.
About Oni Hitokuchi
“Hitokuchi” means “one bite”. In Japanese folk tradition the hitokuchi-no-kami is the devouring shrine spirit that takes a single bite of any offering and leaves the rest — a warning to villages that what they feed will never be sated. This shrine is the spirit's body itself: a roadside hokora that grew teeth and tongues, the kind of cursed altar that appears in the hyakki yagyō (Night Parade of One Hundred Demons) scrolls of the Muromachi period. The kappa-mask ofuda hung along its mane are not protection — they are trophies, paper seals stripped from neighbouring shrines that failed to contain it. The mitsu-tomoe sigils on its crown link it to the Hachiman shrine tradition, but inverted: where Hachiman protects, Hitokuchi consumes.
Material and finish
A display piece on a 100 mm base, approx. 110–135 mm tall including the tentacle root, depending on assembly. Printed at 0.04 mm layer height in UV-cured photopolymer resin (grey). Unpainted; the tentacle and mane areas may need support cleanup. Ready for priming and painting.
At the table
A standout piece for painting competitions, shelf centrepieces and themed shadowboxes. In play it makes an excellent BBEG shrine-encounter set-piece for D&D Eastern campaigns, a sentient location for Lasting Tales, or a desecrated objective for Bushido and Test of Honour skirmish scenarios. Set it beside the Oni Yokai faction as the cult's living altar.
