About Oni Brute

The unarmed oni is the rarest archetype in the legend — most oni in scroll painting carry the kanabō or the tetsubō iron rod, but the brawler-oni belongs to the sumō tradition. The annual sumō wrestling rituals of Heian shrines were said to have begun as bouts between human champions and visiting oni, and the brawler-oni is the form the demon took when it walked into the ring. Massive yet full of expression, knotted with the cord-belt that doubles as a sumō mawashi, this is the demon that beats men because it does not need a weapon to. Hannya-masked rather than face-bared, because he brings the mask of jealousy into the ring with him — every fight is personal.

Material and finish

Available on a 32 mm base (approx. 40–50 mm tall — a large, heavy creature) or a 50 mm base (approx. 55–70 mm tall). Printed at 0.04 mm layer height in UV-cured photopolymer resin (grey). Unpainted, ready for priming.
