About the Mountain Ogre

This is the mountain-oni of the yamauba (山姥) tradition — the cannibal hag-witch of the deep mountains and the giant sons she is said to bear. Yamauba folklore runs through the Heike Monogatari and the Konjaku Monogatari (Heian and Kamakura periods, 11th–13th century), and her offspring is the prototypical Japanese ogre: man-shaped, but built on a scale that does not fit indoors. The doubled face on his shoulder is the niō motif — the paired guardians of temple gates, here corrupted into a single body whose anger guards no doorway. The miniature oni-faces on his greaves are protective fukumen-mon: armour that watches its own ankles.

Material and finish

Available on a 32 mm base (approx. 45–55 mm tall — heavy-creature size) or a 50 mm base (approx. 60–75 mm tall). Printed at 0.04 mm layer height in UV-cured photopolymer resin (grey). Unpainted; the doubled face and the greave details may need minor support cleanup.

At the table

A heavy-creature yokai for D&D ogre and oni encounters, a monstrous champion for Bushido or Test of Honour, a brute unit for OPR Grimdark Future Asian-fantasy, or the mountain-trail ambusher in any narrative skirmish. Pair him with the rest of the Oni Yokai faction.
